The above photo looking north along Spruce Street Uxbridge towards the train station was taken around 1900. On the left you can see The Revere House hotel. This hotel was built by Fred Chinn in the 1870’s.

Spruce Street looking north towards the train station (2021)
Over 100 years later looking north on Spruce Street we can still see the Uxbridge Train Station. The Revere House hotel has been replaced by the Masonic Lodge, which was opened on June 4, 1962. Apartment buildings line both side of the street today.

The photo above was taken in May 2023. The train station and the apartment buildings were almost totally lost during the May 21 2022 tornado. In this photo you can see the trees that lined Spruce St are almost all gone.

The Gould-Carmody house was built in the late 1850’s by Joseph Gould, the first local MPP who had a major influence on the growth and success of Uxbridge. The house stayed in the Gould family until it was sold to William Carmody in 1914.
The house and farm where located just north of Uxbridge Arena and at the west end of Maple Street (my childhood neighbourhood). As a kid this was the edge of town. In 1988 the house was moved to the Uxbridge Historical Centre to its present location to make room for the present day Quaker Village subdivision.

Weekly Real Estate Market Minute for the Townships of Uxbridge and Scugog
The agency of the Dominion Bank opened in Uxbridge in the 1870’s at the South East corner of Brock Street and Main Street.
(shown above).

Above we see the same building from a similar vantage point taken in 2021.
In May 1979 The Toronto-Dominion Bank purchased land on the opposite corner at 1 Brock Street West and built its new Uxbridge location.

On December 8, 2012 the new location at Toronto Street and Elgin Park Drive was opened (shown below). Uxbridge would be serviced by both locations until 2019 when the 1 Brock Street West location was sold.

Here is a block of stores that is part of Uxbridge’s historic downtown on Brock Street West Uxbridge. This photo was taken around 1925 and shows the stores along the south side of Brock Street at the top of the hill.
